There have been allegations that Kremlin interfered with the November presidential election.
Comey, said this on Monday at the Capitol Hill during the Russia Intel hearing by Congress.
He said the investigation was ongoing and classified, and details could not be made available to the public yet.
However, Comey said, “I have been authorised by the Department of Justice to confirm that the FBI is investigating the Russian government effort to interfere in the 2016 presidential election. And that includes individuals associated with the Trump campaign and the Russian government and whether there was any coordination between the campaign and Russia’s effort.”
Comey also said he has no information to support claims by Trump that he was wiretapped by his predecessor, Barack Obama.JUST IN: FBI Director James Comey: The FBI is investigating "alleged links" between the Trump campaign and Russia https://t.co/9RXwkb3DtB pic.twitter.com/iqBlrcvWZS— CNN (@CNN) March 20, 2017
“I have no information that supports those tweets,” Comey told the House Intelligence Committee, adding that the Justice Department, along with the FBI, had no information to support the allegations.
When asked if a sitting President could order a wiretapping against a Presidential candidate, Comey said that no president could order a wiretapping operation against anyone.
