UK boys wear skirts to school as a protest to not being allowed to wear shorts in hot weather (Photos)

Some high school boys in the UK decided to wear skirts to school in protest of not being allowed to wear shorts in hot weather

Massive heatwave is reported to have gripped the UK this summer and the headteacher of Isca Academy in Exeter refused to permit the boys to wear shorts, so in protest they turned up to school in skirts.

The students had approached their headteacher to complain about the heat, asking if they could be allowed to wear shorts as the weather was much too hot for trousers. They were told no – shorts weren’t permitted under the school’s uniform policy.

When they protested that the girls were allowed bare legs, the headteacher had quipped “Well, you can wear a skirt if you like,” and the students decided to take up the challenge and showed up the following day (Wednesday) in skirts.

According to Guardian, the number of skirt wearing boys increased from 5 to about 60 on Thursday.

The school said it was prepared to think again in the long term. The headteacher, Aimee Mitchell, said: “We recognise that the last few days have been exceptionally hot and we are doing our utmost to enable both students and staff to remain as comfortable as possible.

“Shorts are not currently part of our uniform for boys, and I would not want to make any changes without consulting both students and their families. However, with hotter weather becoming more normal, I would be happy to consider a change for the future.”

Temperatures in the UK have risen above 30C this week, melting roads in some parts of the country.
