Former footballer, George Weah reportedly wins Liberia Presidential election


Retired professional footballer turned politician, George Tawlon Manneh Oppong Ousman Weah, has reportedly won the Liberia Presidential election.

The 1995 FIFA World Player of the Year and Ballon d’Or winner, will succeed President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, in a contest that completes the country’s first democratic transition of power in more than 70 years.

Weah, who was the favourite among the 20 candidates to succeed Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, is already a senator in his home country.


Weah won a sackful of trophies with AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco, and played 60 times for Liberia.

He also played for Chelsea and Manchester City.
