Suspended NIA DG, Ayo Oke barred from Aso Rock, breaks down in tears

Ayo Oke, suspended director-general of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), was prevented from meeting Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo at the presidential villa in Abuja on Wednesday, according to Punch.

President Buhari had earlier suspended Oke and secretary to the government of the federation, Babachir Lawal, over the monies which the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) recovered from a flat in Ikoyi last week and in connection with the award of contracts under the Presidential Initiative on North East, respectively.

Punch reports that Oke made desperate attempts to enter the villa, Abuja shortly after his suspension was announced, but was turned back.

He was said to have been driven towards the service chiefs’ gate from where he was turned back.

Oke reportedly broke down in tears when he was refused entry into the Villa and also tried to avoid journalists.

Buhari has set up a committee to investigate into allegations against the duo.

The committee which is headed by Osinbajo is expected to submit its report in 14 days.
