FG, Atiku, Shehu Sani react to the Northern group statement

The Federal Government has, on Wednesday, asked Nigerians to remain calm and disregard the threat issued to the Igbos by the Northern youth on Tuesday.

A coalition of Northern youth, including the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, had in a press conference asked that Igbos vacate the North and the Hausas in the South East to return home.

Speaking to newsmen after the FEC meeting on Wednesday, the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, said security measures have been taken already, The Nation reports.
“The issue of one or two groups issuing statements that are capable of destabilizing the polity did not just start today or did not start yesterday.

“What I want to assure you is that security organizations are very very much on top of this matter.”

Also former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has, On Wednesday, condemned the planned action of “The Kaduna Declaration” and the consequent response by the Ohanaeze Youth Council.

After the Northern Coalition had ordered the Igbos living in the North to vacate the region within three months, and the Hausas in the South to return home, Ohanaeze Youth responded by saying the Igbos cannot leave after investing trillions in developing the region. However, asking the Igbos living in the North to prepare for war, as the Northern youth have asked for a call to arms.

Taking to Twitter, the former vice president, said, “Our country is too precious; our problems are too pressing to pander to divisive rhetoric.

“The ultimatum issued by a Northern youth coalition to the Igbos to quit the region is provocative, and a grave threat to national security.

“The counter response by a South-east group to Northerners is also reckless and thoughtless.”

Senator Shehu Sani who represents Kaduna Central in the senate also took to his Facebook page to react to the statement.

"No region or any ethnic group has the right to eject or instigate an ejection of other ethnic group. This is a republic that has come to stay.In the past it overcame secession, ethnic and religious violence and shall always outlive those promoting it" - he wrote
