Kogi boils, Dino Melaye 'escapes assassination attempt' as his supporters and Gov. Bello's clash (Photos/video)

Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye has reportedly escaped another assassination attempt.

In a series of tweets on Monday, Melaye claimed that his car was shot at by unknown persons.

He had arrived Kogi to address his supporters over plans to recall him from the Senate.

There were gunshots while was addressing them in Lokoja. His supporters and those of the state’s governor, Yahaya Bello reportedly clashed. They reportedly exchanged gunshots.

It was learnt that Melaye was addressing his supporters at the gate of the State Polytechnic, Felele before gunshots were heard.

One of the supporters bearing a pump action gun was reportedly shot.

It was gathered that Special Adviser to the state governor, Air Commodore Jerry Omodara and the State Commissioner of Police Wilson Inalevu later arrived.

Some youths had earlier blocked the road to the hometown of Dino Melaye, while awaiting his convoy.

The youths were trying to deny him access to Ayetoro-Gbede, his hometown.

The youths in the video can be seen chanting songs against the Senator.

Some voters in his senatorial district had on Saturday had called for his recall from the senate.

He accused the governor of sponsoring the move to recall him.
