Buhari sacks Babachir Lawal, Ayodele Oke; appoints Boss Mustapha as new SGF

President Muhammadu Buhari has sacked the suspended Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal and Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Amb Ayodele Oke.

Buhari had suspended Lawal over alleged fraud in the North-East contracts. The President also suspended NIA DG, Ayo Oke over claims on $43m found in an apartment in Ikoyi.

Buhari inaugurated a committee, headed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to investigate the allegations against them. The committee had submitted its findings without much action taken by the Presidency.

The president accepted the recommendation of the panel to terminate the appointment of Lawal, and has appointed Boss Mustapha as the new Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
The appointment takes immediate effect.

President Buhari also approved the recommendation to terminate the appointment of Mr. Oke, and has further approved the setting up of a three-member panel to, among other things, look into the operational, technical and administrative structure of the Agency and make appropriate recommendations.
