Former Vice-President Alex Ekwueme is in stable condition – Family

Former Vice President, Dr Alex Ekwueme who is said to be receiving treatment in Memfis Hospital for Neurosurgery, Enugu is reportedly in stable condition.

In a statement, his family said Ekwueme is stable and will be under close medical attention.

The statement signed by the traditional ruler of Oko, Prof. Laz Ekwueme, said,

“Ekwueme had a quiet celebration of his 85th birthday on Oct. 21 in the company of his family members and he remained in high spirits up till his recent health challenges.

“His doctors confirmed that he is stable, but he will remain under close medical attention in the meantime.

“The family requests the sustained support and prayers of Nigerians as he continues to make a full recovery,” Ekwueme said.

The former VP was said to have collapsed at his residence in Independence Layout Enugu, on Tuesday and was admitted in a private hospital there.

Ekwueme was last seen in public in Anambra state during the flag off of the PDP governorship campaign in Onitsha last month.

His first daughter, Mrs Chidi Onyemelukwe is the deputy-governorship candidate of PDP for the Anambra November election.
