Beyonce's outfit to the 2018 #Grammys was a tribute to the Black Panther Party (Photos)

Beyoncé did not go to this year’s Grammy Awards just to slay, she went to make a statement.

Last night, at the 60th annual awards ceremony held at Madison Square Garden in New York, the music superstar wore a cold-shoulder black turtleneck dress with a large black hat and statement-making silver earrings, finishing off her look with purple lipstick and dark sunglasses.

The 36-year-old singer sat front row with her husband JAY-Z and their 6-year-old daughter Blue Ivy for music’s big nigh.

Beyonce’s makeup artist, L’Oréal Paris Celebrity Makeup Artist Sir John, told People that the singer’s outfit was a tribute to the Black Panther Party.

“If you look at the beret from yesterday, the turtleneck part of the dress tonight – its sculptural silhouette. It was a really strong, powerful moment. This is something that is representative of love and solidarity for her people,” he said.

Beyoncé managed all the statement-making details of her look, right down to the custom Judith Leiber clutch in the shape of a black panther, which Blue Ivy is holding on her lap in the photos below.

This isn’t the first time Beyonce is paying tribute to the civil rights fighting group. In January of 2017, at the Super Bowl, she donned a similarly inspired outfit.
