Photos from Alex Ekwueme's funeral rites in Abuja and Enugu

The final funeral rites for former Vice-President Alex Ekwueme has started.

The body of the former Vice President arrived Nigeria from London on Sunday night.

Earlier today, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo led the Federal government delegation to receive Ekwueme's body at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

There was also a parade of honor at the airport and a night of tributes was held in his honour at Abuja on Sunday.

The body was then transported to Enugu where he was received by South East governors at the Akanu Ibiam International airport.

According to the burial programme, on January 30, there will be a service of songs at the Cathedral Church of the Good Shepherd, Independence Layout, Enugu; while the South-East zone commendation ceremonies will hold at Okpara Square on January 31.

On February 1, the body will depart for Awka for the Anambra State commendation service at the Ekwueme Square.

The body will later in the day depart for Oko, where another service of songs is scheduled to hold.

Ekwueme died after a brief illness at a London hospital in November last year. He will be buried on Friday February 2nd.
