Innoson says court never awarded him N14bn against GTBank

Chairman of Innoson Motors, Innocent Chukwuma has cleared the air on the report that the Supreme Court ordered the GTBank to pay him N14bn within 14 days.

Chukwuma, in a statement released last week by Cornel Osigwe, Innoson Group’s head of corporate communications, said that the court struck the motion for stay of execution of the Enugu court of appeal division’s order that GT Bank pays N6 billion into an interest yielding account.

GTBank in a quick reaction told the public that Innoson’s claims were “false, mischievous and malicious”.

“There was no directive or Order issued by the Supreme Court of Nigeria to the Bank to make any payment to any of its debtor Customers. We again reiterate that there is no iota of truth in the falsehood being peddled by desperate and mischievous elements and the General Public should disregard same in its entirety,” part of the Bank’s press statement read.

Innoson has publicly come out to apologize for the error.

The company has now in a statement through its official handle said the caption was a slight distortion of the information.

It said, “The management of Innoson Vehicles Manufacturing want to bring to the attention of the public to the caption: *SUPREME COURT ORDERS @gtbank TO PAY 14BN to INNOSON made on its official twitter handle @Innosonvehicles.

“The caption was a slight distortion of the information. When the information came to our notice we had to correct the error made by the staff of the agency managing our social media accounts. We apologize for that misleading information.

”Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing (IVM) is still committed in the vision to make Nigeria self sufficient in automobile production.”
