Flying Eagles beat Niger Republic to qualify for U20 FIFA World Cup in Poland

Flying Eagles of Nigeria defeated Niger 1-0 in the U20 Africa Cup of Nations to book a ticket to the 2019 FIFA World Cup in Poland.

A second-half goal from Adamu Alhassan was enough to secure Nigeria a place in Poland.

The first half ended goalless with the hosts Niger with more chances that they failed to convert.

Nafizi Yahaya would have put Nigeria ahead when he missed a clear-cut chance in the 4th minute of the first half.

Flying Eagles midfielder Alhassan broke the deadlock from a free kick in the 73rd minute for the only goal of the game.

The Paul Aigbogun’s boys nearly conceded an equalizer with seven minutes left on the clock as Issa Salou’s header went inches away from beating goalkeeper Olawale Oremade.

Nigeria finished top of Group A with 7 points.

Amajitas of South Africa also booked a berth to Poland with a 1-0 win over Burundi in group A of the other match.

The Flying Eagles will face the runners up in Group B in the semi-final on the February 13.
