Game of Thrones star, Gemma Whelan admits she's rarely recognised on the street

Game of Thrones star, Gemma Whelan, has admitted she's rarely recognised on the street for her work on the fantasy series.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain, Gemma, who stars as Yara Greyjoy on the show, said: 'People don't really recognise me. It's happening a little bit more now because I've more to do this season.

'Game Of Thrones perhaps influences what auditions I get but it's hard to tell.'

But even when people do know who she is, Gemma said that she would never reveal the secrets of the show or what to expect in upcoming episodes.

She said: 'A lot of people are like "don't spoil it for me" but I wouldn't anyway. I'm well trained in keeping shtum about things.'

Gemma first joined the show in 2012 and auditioned alongside 70 other actresses for the role.

Speaking of the character's growing prominence on the series since she made her debut, the TV star told the Independent: 'When the casting breakdown was given out, before I even auditioned, it said I have a much greater role in later seasons.

'Of course, you never believe what you read, and things change, but everything I was told would happen has happened.'

She added: 'I don’t mind playing a little part in a big series, but to become a main character is great.'

Gemma cut a stylish figure as she joined her Game of Thrones co-stars at the season eight premiere at Waterfront Hall in Belfast on Friday.

The actress donned a baby blue silk pleated top with a turtle neck which she paired with a matching skirt that also featured a red floral print.

The eighth and final season of Game of Thrones debuts on Sunday, April 14th on HBO.
