Game of Thrones’ prequel "Bloodmoon" already in production stage, cast revealed

The final season of “Game of Thrones” winding down - but the “Bloodmoon” is about to rise.

That’s the working title of HBO’s prequel series that started filming two weeks ago, according to reports.

The Sun reports that filming began in Belfast two weeks ago for the new series, which will follow the story of early Westeros inhabitants the Children Of The Forest.

A source told the newspaper: 'Thrones fans will be delighted to hear things have started with the prequel. Those working on the set in Belfast are referring to the series as Bloodmoon.

'Producers have put together a stellar cast and it will be must-watch telly for anyone who loves Game Of Thrones.'

The publication claims the Game Of Thrones' prequel will unveil the 'horrifying secrets of Westeros's history to the true origin of the White Walkers.'

According to the original books written by author George RR Martin The Children Of The Forest are an otherworldly non-human race who were the original inhabitants of Westeros.

The mysterious beings were living in Westeros when the First Men migrated to the continent 12,000 years before Robert's Rebellion.

On his blog, Martin had also teased that the action might be based on the “Fire and Ice” companion book “Fire & Blood,” featuring dragons and “all the Targaryen kings from Aegon I (the Conquerer) to the regency of Aegon III (the Dragonbane), along with their wives, wars, siblings, children, friends, rivals, laws, travels, and sundry other matters.”

None of the current characters or actors will be involved in the prequels because they are set a long time ago.

The cast will include two-time Oscar nominee Naomi Watts, who is set to headline as “a charismatic socialite hiding a dark secret.” Fan theorists are speculating online that she will play Nissa, wife of Azor “Lord of Light” Ahai, a leading figure of the faith of R’hllor.

Watts will be joined by fellow double-Oscar nominee Miranda Richardson — a k a Rita Skeeter in the Harry Potter films.

British actors, John Simm (“Doctor Who”), Richard McCabe (“Collateral”), John Heffernan (“The Crown”) and Dixie Egerickx (“Patrick Melrose”).

According to some reports, the show will air sometime this summer.
