CAN speaks on rape allegation against Fatoyinbo as pastor's wife defends husband

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) on Saturday condemned any case of rape in strong terms, saying it doesn’t matter who is involved.

Samson Ayokunle, president of the association, made the comment via a text message to NAN.

Describing rape as ungodly, wicked and reprehensible, Ayokunle said justice must prevail in all rape cases.

He, however, noted that CAN had no details on the allegations against Abiodun Fatoyinbo, the founder of Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA).

But he confirmed that the association had reached out to the “Christian wing” which Fatoyinbo belongs to ascertain truth of the matter and take necessary actions.

”We have no details about the matter other than what we are reading and hearing from the social media, and this is not reliable and credible evidence,” he said

”The CAN leadership has reached out to the leadership of the block which the pastor in question belongs with a view to getting to the root of the matter. This will help us to make the right decision on the issue.”

Meanwhile, wife to Pastor Fatoyinbo has broken silence on the rape allegations by Timi Dakolo’s wife, Busola against her husband.

Busola, a photographer, accused Fatoyinbo of raping her twice when she was 16. She is the second high profile person after Ese Walter to accuse Fatoyinbo of the act.

The mother-of-three narrated how Pastor Fatoyinbo allegedly forced his way into her when she was a teenager.

Fatoyinbo, however, denied the allegation, though admitted that Busola once attended the same church with his family.

Speaking in COZA Abuja on Sunday morning, Pastor Modele Fatoyinbo denied allegation against her husband

According to her, “My husband cannot rape anyone even as an unbeliever.”

“My husband is not a rapist. Even if he was not a believer, he would not be a rapist,” she said.

“If you are a first timer, this is the authentic COZA you’ve heard about. You can hug each other. If you are of same sex, please o, before they say we are giving women to men.”

Some female members of the church also gave testimonies on how “God used Pastor Fatoyinbo” to transform their lives.

Pastor Fatoyinbo, who spoke briefly, announced the cancellation of the annual seven days programme of the church which would have started on Monday.

Tagged “Seven Days of Glory”, influential preachers from the US, including TD Jakes, spoke at previous edition of the programme.

Fatoyinbo said he took the decision as directed by the “Holy Spirit”.

At a branch of the church in Ikeja, Lagos, the pastor in charge, Folarin Ogunsolu, asked members not to be worried, saying the issue would be addressed.

“I saw the protesters outside, that is good. But, it won’t stop us from praising God. Don’t get worried people, we will address this matter,” he said.

On Sunday, protesters stormed the church headquarters in Abuja and Lagos branch.
