Stunning Kiara Cervantes, from Texas, was working as security during US Vice President Mike Pence's visit to the border when a picture of her was posted on Twitter.
But Cervantes and other Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers were branded 'Gestapo' by other furious social media users over conditions at the border camps.
Conditions at the holding facilities at US borders have been slammed amid reports they are filthy, unhygienic and dangerous places.
In Texas, where Cervantes works, recent probes have found people being forced to drink out of toilet bowls as there was no clean water.
After the guard's image was shared thousands of times, one Twitter user said: "Men are sexualising and idealising a concentration camp guard, what is wrong with you all."
Another fumed: "Does it make you feel good when you pour out gallons of water left in the desert for desperate people?
"Quit being a Gestapo and find a new job."
But that didn't stop the officer posting a number of updates for Twitter followers.
She uploaded a selfie video confirming she was the woman in the picture.
Cervantes said: "I am in awe. Thank you all for the support!
"My job is so hectic at this moment but I am grateful.
"I love protecting my country and I love my supporters!"
One user said: "Thank you for your service ma'am, you're doing a thankless and currently much vilified job with poise and professionalism.
"Be careful out there. Don't listen to the awful haters on here and elsewhere being hyperbolic, hysterical liars about what you do. America knows the truth."
